Details

UPTON PYNE UPTON PYNE VILLAGE SX 99 NW 3/44 Cobwebs - (formerly Robin's Farm) - II A medium sized house, formerly 5 cottages, probably with a C17 farmhouse core, but considerably extended and altered in the C18 and later. It comprises a long, narrow cob range on a stone plinth, with thatched roof, gabled ends and eyebrow eaves, one room, 2 storeys deep and with 5 stacks. Only 2 end stacks, one with its side oven, still operate as such; the 2 axial stacks and the back truncated stack (with an adjacent, redundant stair turret) no longer retain their fireplaces. The back windows (facing the lane) are small, irregularly placed, and all at ground level, and although the casements are C20, the embrasures look original. The front has been refenestrated, and there are at present 2 entrances, the main one lying to the left of a distinct change in the direction of the cob wall and probably marking a break in the building history. The roof is of 10 bays, with principal rafters tenoned and side pegged. There is no evidence of smoke blackening. The ceiling joists are massive trunks, simply chamfered.
