Details
BRAMPFORD SPEKE LAKE BRIDGE SX 99 NW 3/11 Lake Bridge Cottage - - II Cottage, previously 3 cottages. C17 2-room with late C18 or early-C19 rear extension. Cob, on stone plinth, with thatched gabled-end roof, and 2 end-stacks, the right-hand stack external. 2 room and cross passage plan. 2 storeys. Window openings altered (2 to each storey at front) and casements mostly C20. The original front entrance (now blocked and marked by a small window) lay to the right of the present doorway, and gave into the right-hand room. The present doorway is a 2 storey projection over which the thatch continues. Interior: right-hand room, with a heavy, single-chamfered beam with bar stop, and a fireplace with Thorverton stone jambs, and a wooden lintel, chamfered with one surviving scroll stop. Left- hand room with beams, chamfered with step stops, and a fireplace similar to the other but with a bread-oven door. To the left of present stairs (over the division between the 2 main rooms) at 1st floor level, a post and plaster partition. Roof: main block with principal rafters, tenoned and side pegged, the apex above collars with cob infill. North extension with side-pegged crossed principals and collars.
