GV II

House. Circa 1860. Colourwashed and stuccoed, probably stone; hipped slate roof with deep eaves carried on curved eaves brackets; end stacks and 2 rear lateral stacks with stuccoed shafts and cornices carried on brackets. Italianate. Plan: Double depth plan, 2 rooms wide, with a central entrance facing the stair. Exterior: Well-preserved. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front with rusticated quoins and a platband. Central porch on columns, porch crowned with a balustrade, the corners solid with raised panels. Good 2-leaf panelled front door with circular mouldings in the centre with a round-headed plate glass fanlight. 2 storey canted bays to left and right with hipped roofs with tall spike on ball finials, the C19 windows glazed with 2-pane plate glass sashes, similar sash above front door. The left return, facing Staplake Road, has 2 first floor and 2 ground floor windows, those to the right blind, the first floor windows with moulded architraves. The rear elevation has a stair window with margin glazing. Interior: Not inspected but likely to retain features of interest. A well preserved Victorian villa on the Strand.
