5/140 Former kennels and adjoining - cottage about 135 metres north west of Pennycombe Farmhouse
GV II
Outbuilding and adjoining cottage, said to have been kennels and kennel-keeper's cottage to the Trehill Estate. Early C19. Red sandstone, the kennels building with a slate roof, gabled at ends with a slate-roofed ventilator running the whole length of the building, the cottage with a slate roof, gabled at the left, hipped at the right end with an axial stack. Plan: 2 ranges at right angles to one another forming an L plan, the kennels now a single space adapted for modern agricultural use. The small single depth cottage has a central door. Exterior: Both buildings single-storey. The kennels has a new doorway in the end with 2 smaller blocked doors and a blocked window above. Breathers to the side walls with neat cut stone architraves ; roof ventilator louvred on both sides. The single storey cottage has a C19 plank and cover strip front door with a slated porch hood and 4 3-light windows with C19 casements with iron glazing bars. Interior: Cottage not inspected. The kennels has a C19 queen post and strut roof, said to be in chestnut. Group value with the former mill building.
