GLEN ROAD
Royal Glen Hotel

I

In December and January 1819-20, the Duke and Duchess of Kent and the
infant Princess Victoria stayed here. The Duke of Kent died here. The
house was then called Woolbrook Glen. The road passing close by is com-
paratively recent. 2 storey stuccoed house (1 storey at south west corner
where ground level is higher). Crenellated parapet. 4 window garden
front with Gothic casements, some of geometric pattern glazing bars removed.
Royal arms in centre of front. The single storey south west end is bowed
with Gothic French windows and delicate iron trellis supports to tent-roofed
verendah. Entrance front has commemorative tablet of 1897. Good Gothicised
porch with trefoils in spandrels of arched openings and iron balustrade
to parapet. Doorway itself has pointed head and surround of rustic posts
and flintwork. Later additions to rear are in sympathetic style with
continuation of crenellated parapet and 2light geometrically glazed casements
with thin drip moulds over.
