COBURG ROAD 1. 1633 (North East Side) Nos 1 to 4 (consec) Coburg Terrace SY 1287 1/58 12.10.51. II* GV 2. Circa 1830 group of 2 storey stuccoed houses. The central pair semi detached and Nos 1 and 4 linked to them by gabled stucco screen walls. No 1 has a crenellated parapet concealing gable end slate roof. The original fene- stration has been altered by the insertion of a later 2 storey canted bay with tent roof. 1 original window survives on 1st floor to right above entrance: altered 2-light casement with hood mould. Door below is recessed of 6 panels with rectangular fanlight, panelled reveals and soffit. A porch with clustered shafts and entablature has been added, the frieze glazed in. Nos 2 and 3 have a string surviving below the crenellated parapet which is raised to form a central gable, crowned by a ball finial. Symmetrical front with joint porch. 3 windows each on 1st floor, the outer ones 2-light casements with pointed heads and marginal glazing, hood-moulds over. The central ones each house are set lower. French casements with round upper panes and marginal glazing. They have peaked canopies with trellis supports and a common balcony broken forward to centre over porch, with balustrade. 2 windows each on ground floor similar to outer ones above, with hood moulds over. The porch has clustered shafts and pilasters to wall supporting entablature. The doors are recessed separately, No 2 of 4 panels, 2 glazed and No 3 of 6 panels 2 glazed. Both have rectangular fanlights with marginal glazing. No 4 is similar to No 1, 2 storeys stuccoed with crenellated parapet, and retains its original fenestration and doorway. 3 windows 1st floor, 2 on ground floor, 2-light marginal glazed casements with pointed heads, hood-moulds over. The entrance is set to the left to balance that of No 1. Recessed door of 6 panels, 4 glazed, large rectangular fanlight with marginal glazing. Panelled reveals and soffit. Doorcase of clustered shaft pilasters and cornice. Peter Orlando Hutchinson lived here before the Old Chancel Coburg Road was built.
Nos 1 to 4 (consec) Coburg Terrace form a group.
