Details
CLIFTON PLACE 1. 1633 No 2 (Clifton Lodge) SY 1287 1/45 12.10.51. II GV 2. Probably C18 with later alterations. 2 storeys rough cast (1 storey at east end to road due to sloping site). Thatched roof. 4 window front to sea with 3 storeyed canted bays, sashes, some with glazing bars intact. Good trellis porch, tent roof with fretwork of trefoil and fleur-de-lis ^pattern. The front to road has sash windows in moulded frames with glaz- ing bars intact. Recessed door of 4 panels, 2 glazed. The house forms part of a group, between the cliff edge end Peak Hill Road at the west end of the Esplanade, that is one of Sidmouth's most characteristic features.
All the listed buildings in Clifton Place form a group.
