Details
CLYST HYDON ST 00 SW 2/27 Manor Lodge GV II
Former lodge to the Manor House (q.v). Circa 1840. Plastered stone rubble and brick; stone rubble and brick stack with C19 chimneyshaft; thatch roof. Plan: L-plan cottage ornee facing east onto the drive to the Manor House (q.v). The main block this side has a 2-room plan with a disused entrance porch on the right (north) end facing the road. A 1-room plan rear block projects at right angles to rear of the left (south) room and there is an axial stack serving back-to-back fireplaces between the left and rear rooms. 2 storeys. Exterior: symmetrical front with 2 ground floor windows, one each side of a doorway and a single central first floor window under a gable. All are C20 casements without glazing bars. The central doorway contains an original plank door with a Gothick pattern of coverstrips. The roof is gable-ended. The north front (facing the Manor grounds) has a 2-window front of C20 casements without glazing bars and there are gables over the first floor windows. The north end of the main block has a disused gabled porch in which the outer arch is blocked. In the gable above is an original window; a 2-light casement containing a Gothick pattern of glazing bars. Interior: not inspected. Manor Lodge along with the Manor House (q.v), its grounds and boundary walls (q.v) form an important group on the eastern approach to the village.
