5/107 South Lodge - - II
Pair of cottages (one cottage now Budlake sub post office). Mid C19. Cob, stone plinth, rendered, under thatched roofs, each element of the plan differently treated (one range gable-end, the other half-hipped and the porch-wing hipped). An informal early vernacular revival design influenced by the writings of Loudon. Plan: one range with 2-storeyed porch, open to ground floor, with a central cross wing on opposite side to porch. To the end of the said range has been added a late C19 slated lean-to (containing the post office). 2 storeys throughout. The range with 1 and 2-light timber casement windows to each floor, 6 panes per light; the open ground floor of porch with timber lattice work. The cross wing with fish-scale slated polygonal window bay facing road 1:1:3:1:1, each light with 3 panes, with 2- light window above, this face itself brought out slightly from main face of cross wing. The other elevation to this wing with two 1 and 2-light windows under eyebrow eaves over weatherboarded lean-to.
