6/23 Higher Willyards Farmhouse - 11.11.52 - II
Former farmhouse. Circa 1500 with later modifications and a C20 front wing to right-hand end. Cob, stone plinth, rendered, under gabled-end slate roof. Originally a 3-room cross passage plan, considerably altered. 2 storeys. Front: 4 window range to the older house; five 2 and 4-light ground floor windows, and a doorway (under slate-roofed porch) that stands immediately to the left of the (now blocked) cross-passage entrance. Upper windows of 2-lights, 2 of them under separate gables, formerly eyebrow eaves. Axial stack backs onto former passage. Rear stair turret at higher end of Hall. Interior: Hall fireplace, large, side-oven, jambs renewed; one deeply chamfered beam, and a bressumer above fireplace probably marking jettying of former lower end into Hall; remains of screen (studs but no infilling). Roof: 3 jointed crucks above Hall, chamfered, morticed and side-pegged at apex; smoke-blackened.
