5/27 Ivy Cottage -

- II

Cottage. C17 with C19 rear wing. Cob, stone plinth, rendered, under gabled-end thatched roof, with Killerton stone rear wing under gabled-end dry slate roof. Originally probably a single-cell cottage (the present internal divisions are of brick but may replace former timber and lath partitions). 2 storeys. Front: Porch, left of centre, timber with tiled roof; one C19/C20 3-light timber casement window to either side, with one 2-light window above under boarded eyebrow eaves. Right-hand side elevation with 2 buttresses of circa 1932 and at 1st floor 2 small single-light windows to either side of an internal end stack, 4 leaded panes each, with glazing bars. A similar one-light window to left-hand elevation now blocked and replaced by a 2-light timber casement window. Roof: 2 substantial principals, morticed and side-pegged at apex with diagonal ridge-piece; purlins trenched, rafters and tie beam, side pegged and morticed. They appear to sit well down in walls and are possibly raised crucks.
