8/34 Barn about 40 yards east of Bodenham Farmhouse
GV II
Barn. Probably late C17 to early C18. Timber-frame with board and woven infill, sandstone rubble plinth and extensions with plain tiled roofs. Three plus one bays aligned west-south-west/east-south-east. Two-level east bay. South elevation has ledged full-height doors to threshing floor in second bay from left with C18 lean-to cow cots to each side; to the right is a rubble wall, corresponding to the fourth bay [linking the barn with the adjacent cider house (qv)], which has a ledged C18 door, a 6-barred oak mullioned window and tallet stairs to the upper level rising at right angles from those belonging to the cider house; rubble lean-to extension to left gable; wall-frame is four panels high from cill to wall-plate. Interior: trusses of heavy scantling with braces from main posts to ties and raking struts from ties to principals. Together with the nearby Bodenham Farmhouse (qv) and cider house (qv) this building provides an unaltered example of a C18 farm unit in a picturesque position against a hill-side.
