6/63 Huntsham Court and adjoining gate piers 18/5/53 GV II*
Farmhouse. Early C17 with later C17 and C18 additions, altered C20. Sandstone ashlar. C20 concrete tiled roofs. Former L-shaped house extend- ing to west and to south, facing west, later additions to south, south-west and north-east and further C18 additions to north and south, two main lateral stacks: towards angle of L and second now enclosed by later gabled extension to rear of south wing, main entrance towards centre of west elevation of south wing. Three storeys and cellar. Mainly stone mullioned windows with square hoodmoulds. West front: two windows flank central porch to main block; two 2-light late C19 casements to second floor (possibly implying altered floor level), range of 5-light stone mullioned windows with hoodmoulds to left and similar 3-light window to right, glazing bar sash window to right ground floor, 3-light mullioned window lights cellar to left, steps up to central porch supported on robust Tuscan columns with three open 3-centred arches, deep moulded cornice and hipped lean-to roof, moulded jambs to 4-centred headed doorway, solid studded ledged door.- Projecting gable of wing to left: 2 ranges of glazing bar sash windows with flat stone arches and pair of 4-pane sashes under segmental head to attic (second floor). North face of additions to right (south-west) of main block with inserted C20 3-light stone mullioned window and hoodmould, range of 2-light mullioned windows further to west. Rear: irregular with stack at junction with cross-wing, the latter extended as two projecting gables, apex chimney to left gable, irregular fenestration: one 2-light stone mullioned window to each floor of main block, altered C19 2-light casements to right, inserted C20 3-light stone mullioned window to left of altered doorway; partly-glazed panelled door, fine bolection moulded doorway (possibly resited) to single storey C18 extension further to right (north). Resited datestone of 1645 in lintel of lower window to south face of later C17 addition. Interior: altered but retaining fine chamfered beams in main hall and fragments of plastering with fleur-de-lis motif. C20 restored fireplace in main hall. Adjoining to the north of the C18 north addition: pair of rebuilt C18 piers formerly sited at entrance of driveway approximately 80 m north of house. A very ancient site, of medieval origins and also associated with Roman remains.
