9/150 Cowhouse about 50 metres south-east of Trenant Farmhouse

II

Former house, now cowhouse. Early C17 with mid-C19 and C20 alterations. Timber-frame with wattle-and-daub infill on rubble plinth, stone slate roof patched with corrugated iron. Three bays aligned east/west, east bay of rubble, 2 framed bays to west; stack to east of framing with adjoining spiral staircase on north side. North front: one storey, attic lit by raked top dormer; rubble bay to left with 2-light casement at right side (lighting staircase); entrance off-centre left in 2 framed bays, flanked by two 2-light casements. Framing: 2 square panels high, west gable truss: 2 queen posts to collar, V-struts in apex. There is evidence in this gable that the building extended further in this direction. Interior: between 2 framed bays a timber-framed partition with 2 segmental headed doors. (RCHM 1, p 216, no 21).
