Details
MUCH BIRCH CP - SO 53 SW 5/66 Barn and stable about 25 yards east of Strickstenning Hall - II Barn and stable. Probably C17. Sandstone rubble and sandstone dressings. Timber-frame with brick nogging. Welsh slate roof. Rectangular plan. Four- or five-bay barn and two-bay stable aligned south-west/north-east with stable at latter end. Two levels. North-west elevation has barn to right with deep sandstone plinth, full-height wagon entry via two-leaved ledged doors to right-hand side and regular square framing of three panels from cill to wall-plate. Attached to left the stable has a 2-light window to first floor and a chamfered doorway partly blocked with a cambered head. North-east gable has two chamfered openings, one to each storey. Interior has raking strut trusses and collar trusses supported by queen struts. Strickstenning Hall is not included in this list. (RCHM, Vol I, p 23).
