4/57 Building on three sides of stable court south of Hill Court
GV II
Former stables and gateway. Probably mid-C18 and early to mid-C19. Brick, mostly in English garden wall bond, with slate roof. Building on south side has central two-storey section with moulded pediment and with an archway which has a sandstone surround, segmental head, and keystone. The upper storey has a blank plaque, and aclock with plain stone surround. To each side the building is of a single storey and has wide doorways with timber lintels. At the west end, extending northwards at right angles, is a building of two storeys and three bays, which has unglazed windows and a door between the second and third bays Facing it, on the east side of the courtyard, is a taller two-storey building which has openings with segmental heads and a storey band which rises over each arch. On the ground floor are three windows and a door. First floor windows over second window and over door. At the right is an enlarged glazed entrance with a first floor window above. Interior: east range has two trusses with collar and tie-beams, and four with collars and bolted scissor-braces.
