Details

MUCH DEWCHURCH CP - SO 42 NE 9/103 Barn about 50 yards south-west of Newhouse Farmhouse

GV II Barn. Probably late C17 to late C18 with later alterations. Sandstone rubble and timber-frame with weatherboards. Corrugated iron roof. L-plan with four-bay range aligned roughly north/south and two-bay arm projecting westwards from north end. West elevation is weatherboarded with full-height entry immediately to the right of the junction of the two arms. Subsidiary arm to left is sandstone rubble. South elevation has raking-top opening to east/west arm with doorway to left. Interior has trusses with V-struts above collars supported by queen struts. North truss has scissor struts above collar. Western extension has pegged king-post trusses. At junction of two ranges is a hip incorporating an adzed oak gutter. Included for group value. (RCHM, Vol I, p 52).
