Details

CALLOW CP - SO 43 SE 6/27 Callow House Farmhouse (formerly listed as Callow 20.10.52 Farmhouse) GV II Farmhouse. Probably C17 with earlier origins and later alterations. Sand- stone rubble and brick finished in paint and render. Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. L-plan with four-bay arm extending roughly north-north-east and three-bay arm west-north-west. North arm has cellar, one storey and attic; west arm, three storeys and attic. West elevation has to left one mid-C20 glazing bar casement of three lights flanked by a pair of ledged mid-C20 doors. To the right the tall gable front has one 3-light casement to each floor. The top one is probably C18 and wrought iron; the middle wooden and mid-C19; the ground floor one has chamfered stone mullions. Interior has high rooms to upper floors of west arm, the roof of which has plain collar trusses. Its ground floor room has heavy chamfered ceiling beams forming a large cross. The north arm has similar roof trusses enclosing a lower and presumably earlier roof (RCHM Vol I, p 35).
