Details

MORDIFORD CP MORDIFORD SO 53 NE 5/148 The Post Office and Shop II Former inn, house, now post office and shop. Late C17 or early C18 core, altered mid-C19, C20 alterations. Timber-framed core largely underbuilt and refaced with brick and sandstone rubble, completely encased in pebble- dash render, slate roofs. Main range formerly of five framed bays aligned east/west with cross-wing at east end, rear lean-to enclosing lateral stack, further lateral stack to cross-wing, three entrances to north front. Two storeys, one 2-light casement window and similar 3-light window below, in gable end of cross-Wing to left, one 4-light and two 2-light casement windows to right with one 2-light window to right of doorway giving access to cross- wing, 4-light window to left of further doorway and third doorway giving access to shop with 3-light window to right. Interior retains sections of square-panelled framing and chamfered beams with ogee stops in central room which also retains late C19 or early C20 bar of the former inn.
