Details
FOWNHOPE CP FOWNHOPE SO 53 SE 7/51 The Tan House GV II Formerly row of tenements, now one house. C17 house with adjoining late C18 and early C19 additions. Timber-framed core to earlier house with part wattle-and-daub and part brick infill, sandstone plinth, remainder part sandstone rubble and part painted brick, slate and tiled roofs. L- plan C17 house to south with rear wing extending to east; adjoining C18 house to north with further later addition to north, stacks largely removed from C17 house and entrances blocked, end stacks to central house with west lateral stack to northernmost house; largely two storeys and basement with single-storey and attic to earlier house; west front, brick refacing to west wall of C17 section to right; central late C18 house with string course and four openings to first floor with cambered heads, left of centre one blocked flanked by glazing bar sash windows with ledged door to far right; ground floor, tripartite glazing bar sash window to left and 2-light opening with slatted vents to right of blocked ledged door; present entrance at junction with northern addition with canopy and panelled door; irregular fenestration to left with 4-light casement window to left and single light to right, tripartite glazing bar sash window to ground floor. Interior of C17 wing reveals timber-framing, fairly complete though renewed and replaced in parts, former end trusses bear traces of lozenge framing and one panelled room on the ground floor to left. The right end section of the central house retains a cider mill and press on the ground floor.
