6/31 The Orangery and adjoining garden wall about 30 yards 27.1.77 south-west of Brookfield House (formerly listed as Brookfield House Orangery)
GV II
Orangery, now house, and adjoining garden wall. Mid-C18 with late C20 altera- tions. Brick with stone dressings; hipped slate roof behind parapet. Single storey. Rectangular four-bay plan; openings have round heads and rusticated lintels; two multi-paned C20 windows; C20 multi-paned doors in second and fourth bay. Single-storey C20 addition projects to left with C20 round-headed windows in the front elevation and in the angle with the main part. Garden wall adjoins right end and runs south-west for about 80 yards. It is about 12 feet high with pilaster buttresses at 10 yard intervals and terminates in a square pier with pyramidal capping. About 10 yards from The Orangery is a doorway with cambered head. The Orangery and adjoining garden wall survive from the original C18 garden layout and form a strong visual link with the main south- east elevation of Brookfield House (qv). Included for group value.
