TQ 09 NE RICKMANSWORTH SCOTS HILL (Southeast side) Croxley Green 6/228 Scots Hill Cottage 28.2.84 II

House. C16, extended late C16 or early C17. Altered C18 and extended c.1950. Timber frame to core, roughcast. Tiled roof. Originally 2 bays with 1 bay to rear and entry porch to right added c.1600. 2 storeys. Entrance in original left bay in C20 gabled timber porch. To right 2 casements on both floors with a projecting band between storeys. Original left end post covered by stained board. 2 storey gabled former entry porch to right. C18 external stack at right end with offsets. Stack to rear right over 1 bay early addition. Lean-to on right return. Roof hipped to left. Interior: exposed frame, ground floor stop chamfered beam, C18 bread oven, staircase and stud partitions in left bay insertions probably contemporary with early extensions. Cambered tie beams and wall plates supported by diagonal braces. Queen struts to collars clasping purlins. 1950 additions are of no special interest
