GREAT GADDESDEN PIPERS HILL TL 01 SW (North side) 3/117 Central Barn at 21.2.78 Church Farm, 50m to East of farmhouse (Formerly listed as Central Barn GV at Church Farm)

Barn. Early C17. Timber frame on red brick sill wall, dark weather- boarded, with steep old red tile roof. A tall barn of 5-bays, facing W, with a gabled projecting porch to the middle bay. On a site sloping from N to S. Jowled posts with unjowled mid-bay posts, and mid-height rail jointed in-line. Curved braces to cambered tie-beams. Clasped-purlin roof on queen-strut trusses with diminished straight principals and straight wind-braces to single purlin in each slope. Wind-braces only at gable ends and in middle bay. Squint-butted scarf joints in wallplates and in each purlin next to truss.
