Details

ALDBURY STOCKS ROAD SP 91 SE (West side) 5/78 Farmhouse at - Stocks Farm GV II Farmhouse. 1908 by Smith and Brewer for Mrs. Humphrey Ward, the novelist, who then lived at Stocks House, (q.v.). Plum brick with red brick dressings, wooden eaves cornice and steep hipped red tile roof. A 2-storeys, 5 windows wide, symmetrical subdued Queen Anne revival house facing E. Red brick plinth carried up as aprons to lower windows, red rusticated interrupted quoins, triple brackets to wide painted eaves cornice, and 2 large square chimneys symmetrically placed just to rear of ridge. Flush box sash windows with segmental heads under 2 rings segmental red brick arches with 6/6 panes. Central door with upper half panelled, wooden doorcase with oval fluted pilasters and segmental pediment, and one brick step. 2 windows to each floor on S end. Single-storey outhouse adjoining on N. Included for group value. (Ernest: Willmott, English House Design, London (1911) 209).
