Details

CHASEWAYS 1. 5253 (North End) Rowney Farm TL 468 137:6/36 II GV 2. Late C17/early C18. Large former farmhouse. Timberframed and plastered with steep old red tile gabled roof. 2 storeys and attics: 5 windows: external gable chimneys. Lower C18,2 storey timberframed and plastered extension on N end with hipped old tile roof. Single storey rear kitchen wing at NW weatherboarded with large gable chimney. Modern glazed front porch and conservatory at S end. C19 cross windows with small paned cast iron casements. Broad C18 door surround with architrave surmounted by swelled frieze and triangular pediment, 2 light cast iron casements to N extension. Rear has 2 dormers and modern lean-to extension. Interior has high rooms with central well stair and heavy axial beams, chamfered with bar stops. Upstanding beams in attic suggest S end was a cross wing. On 1st floor 2 panel doors with H- hinges. Part of Pishiobury estate sold in 1865 when some farm buildings were said to be newly erected. Rowneys said to be mentioned as a messuage in deeds of 1735.
