Lodge. Mid C19. Tall, single storey, polychrome brick Gothic gate lodge with red tiled very steep roof. T-shaped with wing projecting to W, having a canted mullioned bay window facing onto the drive, a small hipped gablet carried on cusped brackets and projecting rafter feet. White brick walling generally with deep chamfer to plinth and 2 bands of buff brick (at different levels in each wing). The N gable is half-hipped with a trefoil pierced gablet surmounted by a wrought iron finial on octagonal wooden base. Very deep bargeboard chamfered with flat ogee cusping. Tall 3-light mullioned window with deep gauged brick flat arch chamfered and stopped on its front edge. Heavy chamfered wooden frame. Lower diagonal set tiled porch in angle. Half-hipped with finial and very deep chamfered arched bargeboard with 4 small trefoil holes. Porch carried on heavy arched braces and moulded corbels at knee height. Flat 2-centred arched doorway, plank door and simple fishtailed hinge plate. 2 Portland stone steps and landing of black and red tiles. Porch now propped on chamfered posts. A striking Gothic polychrome brick and tile gate lodge of special architectural interest. Part of group with Hunsdonbury.
