8/82 Lych Gate to churchyard of Church of St. Martin

GV II

Lychgate. Circa 1900, presumably by Thomas Carter architect for church of that date q.v. Oak with steep old red tile roof. A small open structure with 2 sill-beams, wallplates, and ridge N-S. 2 wide-spaced chamfered posts to each side set in from corners with convex braces down to sill beam at corner and 2 cusped curved braces to wallplate from each post. Longer curved braces from posts support a cambered collar to the 2nd rafter in from each end with a wooden cross as infill. Moulded bargeboards to each end. Sinkings for gate-fixings on posts nearer road. Yorkstone threshold on roadside. Included for group value.
