4/19 Kingswell House

GV II

House. Late C15 open hall house with storeyed E crosswing, floor and stair inserted in hall in late C16. Renovated and SW extension later C20. Timber frame roughcast with steep old red tile roofs. A 2-bays, 1½-storeys, hall range with projecting 2-storeys gabled E crosswing jettied to front (N) with 3 curved brackets. 3-lights dormer window to roof of hall range and entrance next to crosswing beside internal chimney with square shaft above roof. 2 casement windows to each floor of wing and one to ground floor of hall range to W of where roof carried down as porch. Very large C18 external W gable chimney to hall range with 4 tiled offsets. Bow window added to E side of wing. Interior has double-rebated cruciform crown post with 4-ways bracing to hall roof set on arch-braced tie-beam with hollow chamfers to braces. Wing roof clean: hall roof sooted. Inserted floor elaborately moulded with hollow chamfer and roll to each side of axial beam, and similar edge-rolls to soffit of joists. (RCHM Typescript).
