7/99 Live and Let Live - GV II

House, sometime a public house. C16, altered c.1600, S half successive extensions of C19 and 1974. Timber frame plastered with panelled fan pargetting and dark weatherboarded apron. Steep thatched roof with fancy ridge and wide overhanging eaves. A low H-plan house, set back a little from road, facing W, with N half the original L-plan house with storeyed crosswing and short single-storey and garret hall range. Near contemporary rear half-bay to wing with winding stair and internal chimney at junction of wings. 1st extension doubled length of hall range with short 1 1/2-storeys part a little higher, 2nd extension a 1 1/2-storeys crosswing, enclosing chimney at S end of 1st extension. 2- and 3-lights flush casement windows, 4 to recessed centre, one on each floor of S wing gable, one on each floor of N crosswing gable with the ground floor window offset to RH for gabled projecting tiled porch. Interior has jowled posts, clasped-purlin roofs, and chamfered cross beams with ogee stops in N wing.
