BARLEY SMITH END TL 3938 (Northeast side) 7/117 Smith End Farm House 10.3.77 (formerly listed as Smith's End Farmhouse, Smith's End Lane)

GV II

House. Mid to late C17, refronted early C19. Timber frame. Red brick front, rendered and weatherboarded to rear. Tiled roof. A long range of 6 bays. 2 storeys. 4 windows to front grouped in pairs at ends, blank to centre where original axial ridge stack rises with 5 conjoined diagonal shafts. Plinth. To right is a gabled brick porch addition with a projecting bay window to left, 16 pane sashes to right and on first floor. To left an entrance with a raking tiled hood on brackets, above a 16 pane sash, to right of this are 20 pane sashes. All openings recessed with cambered heads. Small gables break eaves. Rendered left end with a C19 white brick external stack, first floor 3 light casement. Weatherboarded right end. To rear a catslide roof over a continuous lean-to outshut with an early external stack behind right bay, scattered casements and doors. Interior not inspected.
