KELSHALL THE STREET TL 33 NW (Northeast side) Kelshall 4/9 The Maltings 19.2.73 (formerly listed as Maltings Yard) GV II House, once 4 cottages. C15, hall range rebuilt mid C17, restored 1978. Timber frame on brick base, rendered. Tiled roof. 2 bay cross wing with 3 bay range to left. 2 storeys. Entrance between 2 left bays. Renewed 2 light flush frame small pane casements. C18 red brick ridge stack to right of centre. Left gable end exposed plates and purlins. Cross wing to right projects slightly with first floor jettied on 3 curved brackets, two 2 light casements on each floor, exposed wall plates. Cross wing has a lower ridge so that there is a small weatherboarded gablet on the right end of the main range. Right return has a single light and two 2 light casements. In angle of cross wing and main range to rear is a lean-to addition with a catslide roof from cross wing. Interior: crown post roof with 2 way struts in cross wing. C17 range has smaller scantling, stop chamfered bearer, straight braces, clasped purlin roof. (RCHM Typescript).
