London Coal Duty Marker adjoining south corner of garden to Queens Head Public House.

London coal duty marker, erected 1861-62 to mark the limit of coal duty in the London area. Cast iron post, painted white. About one and a half metres high. Chamfered corners. Roll mouldings form capital. Front has City of London crest and inscription: '24 & 25 Vict Cap 42'. Maker's mark on plinth: Henry Grissell iron works, Regents Canal, London. One of four in parish. A very well preserved example, probably the best in Hertfordshire.
