The description shall be amended to read:
Now forms one house. Circa 1600 with front of about 1820. 3 storeys and
attic, 3 windows and another window on second floor right over high carriageway
reaching half way up frist floor. Second floor centre window blocked.
High pitched, tiled roof. Plastered facade. Moulded stone plinth, and
moulded string at first floor cills. Window over carriageway a 2-light
casement. Other first and second floor windows are sashes in flush box
frames with Gothick glazing bars. 2 doors in ground floor centre, one
of 6 panels and one modern. Left hand window a C19 sash with vertical
glazing bars, right hand window modern. Inside 4 rooms with panelling
of circa 1700. Panelled hall and staircase with thick, twist balusters.
Panelled dado to stairwell. Thick, oak plank floors and many exposed
beams including tie-beams and long centre beam in attic. Close-studded
timbering exposed in 2 rooms and on landing. In a first floor room a plaster
ceiling with Caesar Augustus head in medallions within geometrical shapes
with raised, floral borders. Timber framed rear extension. 1914-18 war
memorial tablet set in wall, one of a series of wall plaques in St Albans
which commemorate the fallen of individual streets and localities.
