TL 12 SE ST PAUL'S WALDEN HIGH STREET (North side) Whitwell

4/135 Nos. 2, and 4 (formerly listed as 1.8.78 Nos 4 to 12 (even)


House, sometime 4 houses, now 2 houses. C17 or earlier, S crosswing rebuilt in brick in late C18. Timber frame roughcast with red brick casing to ground floor. S wing in red and blue brick in Flemish-bond. Steep old red tile roofs, hipped on S wing. An L-shaped 2-storeys house facing E with higher S crosswing extending to rear (W). Main range has 4 small 2-lights casement windows front on 1st floor, large 2-light windows to ground floor and several blocked doors. Large internal chimney a quarter from the crosswing in front roofslope has pilaster strips. S wing has a corbelled eaves band with projecting headers, 3 windows to ground floor and 2 to 1st floor with central recess and Phoenix fire insurance mark. Casement windows. Former central door now a window.
