ANLABY PRYME STREET TA 02 NW (north side) 9/3 The Old Hall 31.1.67 - II
House. c1680 with early C18 rear wing; roof pitch lowered and stacks reduced in late C19. Red brick, flat tile roof. Plinth. 2 storeys, 7-window front with central 2-storey projecting gabled porch. C20 round- headed double-leaf door with glazing bars in keyed round-headed arch on stone imposts. Heart-shaped piercings, now glazed, to porch ground-floor side walls. Tripartite sash to bay one, sashes with sills and glazing bars to bays 2 and 3. Sash with sill and glazing bars to bay 5, tripartite sash to bay 6 which also includes a C20 glazed garden door. C20 projecting garage entrance to bay 7. All windows under segmental brick arches. First floor: matching fenestration. Sash with glazing bars and sill over garage to right. Axial stacks composed of grouped flues with bands at the position of the lead flashings to the former roof. In the gable elevations can be seen blocked windows at ground, first, and attic levels: the latter a single, central window, its upper part now truncated by the lowered roof pitch. Interior: large inglenook fireplace under an elliptical arch with continuous plain chamfer fading out midway down the jambs. To the rear of the earlier range is a fine, though somewhat reduced, closed-string stair of c1700 with heavy turned vase balusters, square newels with pendants, and heavy moulded handrail. This probably dates from the same period as the rear wing which may have replaced a rear stair tower. Rear wing: large early C18 inglenook fireplace which retains 2 bread ovens.
