8/205 Lodges and Arched 20.5.49 Gateway to Dyrham Park (Formerly listed as Lodges and II* arched gateways to above under General)
Entrance arch and 2 lodges. c.1790-1800. Stuccoed brick with stone dressings. Slate roofs to lodges. Monumental Neo-classical arch linked to flanking square lodges. Arch has 2 attached Tuscan columns with entablature. On top rests a sarcophagus-like block decorated with festoons and a central roundel all surmounted by an urn. Paterae in spandrels of arch. Half height link walls pierced by round headed entrances. Each lodge has architraves to windows on all sides with scrolled bracketed pediments: some damaged and all blocked. Continuous stringcourse from impost level of central arch to top of link walls to cornice level of window architraves. Cornice below eaves level on lodges. Pyramidal roofs with central chimneys. Iron gates in store. (Pevsner 1977).
