26.3.76 The Old Registry Office GV II
Circa 1850-60. Early English Gothic style building. Coursed stone with freestone dressings. Narrow two storey building. First floor Early English style tripartite moulded arch window with shafts and moulded capitals. Ground floor similar lancets flanking central doorway with two orders of shafts and moulded two centred arch. Leaded pane windows. Moulded string courses at cill levels. End buttresses with set-offs and parapet with Lombard frieze.
Register Offices were set up under legislation in 1836/37.
