1/163 Hillside Cottage and No.1 - - II

Pair of cottages. C17, possibly incorporating an earlier plan. Roughcast cob on stone footings; gabled-end corrugated iron roof. Possibly originally a 3-room cross-passage plan house; the right-hand extension (under a slate gabled-end roof) in post-1950. The old house is heated by 2 external rear lateral stacks with tall C19 or C20 brick shafts. 2 storeys. Front: 3-window range (excluding circa 1950 work); 3-light casement windows to 1st floor, lintels at eaves level; three 3-light casement windows to ground floor; 2 doors, that inserted into the service-end with late C20 leanto brick porch; C19 casement windows, and a single-storey extension to rear. Interior: hall with one cross ceiling beam, with ovolo moulding and 2 fillets, with hollow step stops. Service-end room with single chamfered ceiling beam with run- out stops. Roof trusses rests on posts.
