SX 98 SE LYMPSTONE CHURCH ROAD (south side), Lympstone 5/17 Bellhangers - - II

End cottage of a row of 3. C17 with later alterations. Block plastered cob on stone footings; gabled-end slate roof. Formerly 2 cottages, that to the left at some point in the C19 converted into a shop, each single-cell structures with rear wing to the shop. End stack with brick shafts. 2 storeys. Front: 2-window range; 6:12:6 pane oriel window to the left, the central part being a horizontally sliding sash; 18-pane horizontally sliding sash window to the right; beneath the oriel is a 24-pane bow window under a moulded cornice, the former shop window; 16-pane horizontally sliding sash window to the right of 2 adjacent front doors. Rear wing with 2 small casement windows to left-hand elevation. Interior: one ceiling beam, chamfered, with hollow step stops; roof, 2 trusses, apex not visible, collars halved; purlins back on to principals; all clean. Bellhangers and the other cottages in this row from an important group close to the parish church.
