Villa now flats. c1830-50. Architects probably RW and C Jearrad. Stucco over brick with hipped slate roof and iron balconies. Square on plan, double depth with entrance to right return. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attics and basement, 3 first-floor windows. Stucco detailing includes moulded plinth; quoins to angles; moulded first-floor sill band; windows have tooled architraves, those to ground floor have cornice on consoles, those to first floor are eared; moulded frieze. Entrance facade: 6/6 sashes throughout, those to ground floor are tripartite between 2/2 sashes; blind boxes. Central entrance: solid porch has paired Ionic pilasters, frieze, cornice and stepped blocking course; round-arched windows to sides with keystones; central round-arched opening with keystone and imposts, within double 4-panel part-glazed doors (the upper panes rounded) with overlight and keystone in tooled architrave. 3 attic roof dormers. Garden facade: 6/6 sashes throughout with blind boxes, those to ground floor are taller; pedimented attic roof dormers have 3/3 sashes. Basement has 6/6 sashes. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: continuous ground-floor balcony to garden facade has X-motif balustrade. Forms a group with Nos 2 and 3 (qv), Nos 4 and 5 (qv), and No.6 (qv), Douro Road, of overall Classical design with Italianate touches to the roof and dormers. The symmetrical design consists of 2 pairs of semi-detached villas between detached villas.
