2 semi-detached villas, now house and flats, with attached railings. Numbered right to left, described left to right. c1840-50. Architects probably RW and C Jearrad. Ashlar over brick front facade, otherwise stucco, with slate roof; 3 tall stacks with cornices to ends of central section and to party-wall; iron railings. Double depth plan with outer side stairhalls; service rooms to basement. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with basement and attics, 8 first-floor windows, of which the central 4-window section breaks forward, whilst to the recessed 2-window range is a projecting ground-floor porch. Ashlar detailing includes: moulded plinth, quoins to angles; tooled architraves to windows, those to first floor are eared, those to ground floor have cornices on consoles and sills; first-floor moulded sill band; cornice. 6/6 windows where original, taller to ground floor; 6 attic dormers have 2/2 and 3/3 sashes and open-pedimented gables. No.4 has blind boxes to ground-floor windows. Basement has 6/6 sashes. Entrances (alike): flight of roll-edged steps to 6-fielded-panel double doors with fanlight with radial glazing bars in tooled surround with keystone in solid porch with paired Ionic pilasters, frieze, architrave and dentil cornice with stepped blocking course. Wide eaves on brackets. Left and right returns have round-arched projection to full-height. Rear: 6/6 sashes, taller to ground floor, those 2 to centre are tripartite windows between 2/2 sashes. INTERIOR: No.4 has main (originally) L-shaped reception room with arch between and rear dining room; curved open-well staircase at right with ornate iron balusters and wreathed handrail. Embellished cornices with ceiling friezes and with roses to ground floor. Some marble fireplaces. First-floor bedrooms have dressing rooms. Shutters to some windows. Inner entrance has 6-panel door with teardrop motif to fanlight. Some doors curved on plan. Otherwise not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings with stick balusters to sides of steps to left (No.5), to right (No.4) are lattice railings.

Between houses and across front boundary of No.5 are spearheaded railings. Area railings have X-motif. To right a ground-floor balcony to rear with concentric-circle motif, steps leading to this from garden have stick balusters to railings. To left are railings with scroll motif to ground-floor balcony. Forms a group with No.1 (Douro Lodge) (qv), Nos 2 and 3 (qv) and No.6 (qv), Douro Road, of overall Classical design with Italianate touches to the roof and dormers. The symmetrical design consists of 2 pairs of semi-detached villas between detached villas.
