GV II

Villa and attached area railings. c1830-50 with later additions and alterations including ranges to rear. Ashlar over brick to front facade with stucco to rear, slate roof and iron railings, balconies and porch. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic, 3 first-floor windows; the narrow central entrance bay is flanked by projecting gabled ranges. Outer bays have quoins to ground floor: moulded first-floor band; ground-floor windows have eared architraves and sills; round-arch with keystone above entrance; first-floor outer windows have aprons and eared and shouldered architraves extending as round arches above with keystones, and shield in 'lunette'; central first-floor window has apron and eared architrave. First floor and basement have 6/6 sashes. Ground floor has 2/2 sashes. Central entrance: flight of steps to 6-fielded-panel double doors with fanlight. Attic: gabled roof dormer has casement window. Right return has ground-floor canted bay with replacement c1990 windows and hipped roof; 6/6 sashes to basement. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: porch has scroll motif to uprights. Railings with stick balusters to sides of steps. Area railings have X-motif. Individual balconies have ornate pierced balustrade. A similar design to Clayton and Demara, Douro Road (qv).
