GV II
2 semi-detached villas and attached railings. c1820-40. Stucco over brick with concealed roof and brick party-wall stacks; iron balcony and railings. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 3 first-floor windows each. Stucco detailings include horizontal rustication to ground floor with voussoirs over openings. First floor band surmounted by end Doric pilasters and between windows. Frieze and dentil cornice with blocking course. 6/6 and 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes, all in plain reveals and with sills. Basements have 3/3 sashes. Outer entrances: roll-edged steps to recessed 4-panel doors, some part-glazed, with sidelights and overlights. INTERIOR: noted as retaining original joinery including panelled shutters to windows. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: enriched rods to sides of steps; continuous ground-floor balcony has Carron Company double-heart-and-anthemion motif balustrade. A similar design to Nos 19 and 21 (qv), and 23 and 25 (qv), London Road.
