Milford Cottage

GV
II

Small house. Circa mid C17 with C18 addition. Whitewashed rubble walls, cob to
rear outshot.- Gable-end corrugated asbestos roof. Squared rubble stack with
dripmoulds at right gable-end, projecting rubble stack with brick shaft at left
gable-end.
Plan: 2-room plan, both heated. At one stage the house was divided into 2 cottages
but there is no thick central dividing wall and it is unlikely to have been an
original arrangement. Probably C18 rear outshut added.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front of circa early - mid C20 2-light
casements. 2 C19 plank doors to left and right of centre, with very small light
inbetween.
Interior: original fireplace in right-hand room has chamfered and step-stopped
wooden lintel. Also in this room is a chamfered ceiling beam and doorframe to rear
outshot.
There is no access to the loft but the roof structure appears to be original and
consists of substantial straight principals with trenched purlins.
