PETROCKSTOWE SS 51 SW 5/46 Key Cottage
- II Small house. Circa mid to later C17 with C19 addition. Rendered cob and rubble walls. Thatch roof gabled to left end hipped to right. Brick axial stack and 1 at left gable-end. Plan: 3-room plan - the 2 rooms to the right are heated by the axial stack between them, tne left-hand room by the stack on its end wall. C19 outshut added along rear wall. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front, 2 half dormers to 1st floor which are late C20 2-light casements. C20 smaller 2 and 3-light casements below. C20 lean-to porch towards left-hand end with stable-type door. Similar door to right under slate doorhood. Interior: central room has chamfered wooden lintel which has had the date 1799 inscribed on it. Rebuilt fireplace to right-hand room. Roof structure may be late C17 and consists of straight principals with collars pegged onto them.
