Details

WINKLEIGH FARMER FRANK'S LANE SS 6207-6307 12/164 East Sedgetts GV II

House. Circa late C17 with C19 addition and C20 alterations. Rendered cob and rubble walls. Hipped thatch roof. Brick axial stack and one at left gable-end. Slightly projecting rendered lateral stack to rear wing. Plan: original plan not entirely clear probably either 2 or 3-room plan with through-passage but the position of the passage is uncertain. Rear wing behind right-hand end is single storey and probably originated in the C18 or C19 as an outbuilding but was converted in the C20 and a lateral fireplace inserted. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2-window front (facing onto road) of later C20 1 and 2-light small-paned casements. Single storey wing behind right-hand end with wide C20 plank door on its outer face towards left end. Rear elevation also has later C20 casements with 2 C20 glazed doors, one towards each end. Interior: open fireplaces with wooden lintels. Insubstantial C20 replacement ceiling joists. The roof timbers may be of interest.
