House. Possibly medieval in origin with a remodelling of circa late C16/early C17. Stone rubble with combed wheat reed thatched roof gabled at ends, rendered stacks at gable ends and 1 stack on ridge. A blocked squint on the first floor above the inner room suggests that the house may have been an open hall house when the inner room was ceiled over. 3-room and cross or through passage plan with the hall stack backing on to the passage and a 2-storey porch. A front gabled projection adjoining the porch may have been added in the circa late C16 when the hall was ceiled over and the hall stack was inserted. In the C19 a stair was inserted in the passage and a single-storey rear addition under a slate lean-to roof is probably also C19. The inner room is now used for storage. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front with off-centre thatched gabled 2-storey porch and adjoining steeply-pitched thatched gabled projection to the right. The inner doorway of the porch is ovolo-moulded and the porch has timber benches. C19 and C20 fenestration: ground and first floor windows left 3-light C19 casements with square leaded panes, ground floor window to right of porch similar. There is a 1-light 6-pane window to the left of the porch. Porch window and first floor window right are C19 2-light casements with square leaded panes. The first floor window in the gabled projection is a 3-light casement with glazing bars. Interior The hall fireplace has a probably C16 chamfered granite lintel carried on a granite corbel with a curved profile, a type found in Lew Trenchard and Brentor parishes. The porch room and first floor room left have the remains of C17 moulded plaster cornices. In the first floor room left the cornice is carried out around principals with curved feet. Access to roofspace unobtainable at time of survey, 1985, but the trusses over the lower end are almost certainly C17 or earlier and a medieval roof may exist above the hall.
