12/81 Royal Oak Cottages - GV II

Row of 2 cottages. Originally incorporating a shop. Mid C19. Exposed and colour- washed rubble walls. Slate roof which is hipped to the left and gabled to the right. 2 axial rubble stacks and one at right-hand end; similar lateral stack at rear of left-hand side. 2 attached cottages of a double depth plan. The larger left-hand cottage had a shop at its left end with independent access and a room to its right beyond a front door. The right-hand cottage probably has only 2 rooms. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 5-window front 3:2. The left-hand cottage has probably its original 28 pane shop window to the left with C19 door with marginal glazing on its splayed left-hand corner. To the right of the shop window are 16-pane original hornless sashes; the central 1st floor window has 12 panes. The right-hand cottage is single-fronted and has later C19 horned 16-pane sashes; the 1st floor left-hand window is blind. C19 panelled door below it. Interior not inspected. This building forms a group with the Royal Oak Inn.
