10/32 Way Cottage, Little Cott and Resthaven

GV II

Row of 3 contemporary cottages. Probably late C18-early C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; cob or stone stacks topped with brick; thatched roofs wheat reed to Way Cottage, replaced with corrugated asbestos over Little Cott. All 3 are small, 2 storey, 2 room cottages separated by cob party walls. Way Cottage (at west end, left of front) and Little Cott (centre) have mirror plans sharing axial stack in party walls and with doors to smaller outer rooms. Resthaven (on right, nearest the road) has similar plan with central door and large projecting gable-end stack with thatch-roofed oven projection. C20 porch to Resthaven. Fenestration, though varied in disposition, is basically 2 windows to each cottage and C19 originals survive in outer cottages (all 2-light, 6 pane casements). Way Cottage has mostly C20 windows. All heated rooms have plain chamfered cross beams but fireplaces blocked with C20 chimney pieces. Included for group value.
