4/212 3 Powlesland Headstones approximately 9 metres north of aisle of Church of St. Andrews GV II

Row of 3 adjacent headstones. The two C18 ones are granite, the early C19 one is slate. All commemorate members of the Powlesland family. The left one is the earliest. It stands approximately 350mm high and has an elliptical head. The top of the front is carved with a stylized winged cherub's head over an inscription of Roman serif upper and lower case lettering which records the death of Elizabeth Powlesland but the date is buried. The right one stands approximately 500mm high with a low elliptical head. The front has a simple incised border and is inscribed in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. It records the death of Robert Powesland in 1796. The central slate one stands approximately 1.20 metres high with a shaped head which is carved as a couple of angels holding a globe. The first word of the inscription is in Gothic lettering. The rest is Roman serif upper and lower case lettering with some italics. It records the death of Thomas Powesland in 1815. The Powesland family still farm the parish from Powesland Farmhouse (q.v).
